Humbled Brittany

This may perhaps be one of the biggest highlights to my year as Miss New Mexico USA! I am so humbled to have been given an opportunity to share my story in such a unique way.

It tickles me to see lil' ole me & my story displayed on Gala Darling's blog (THE Gala I'm always raving about!!): Beauty Queens, Butt Glue, & Radical Self Love: What Really Goes On In The World Of Pageantry

galadarling.com

Gala Darling is one of my idols, especially in the department of radical self love and inspiration. She is such an incredible woman on so many levels. She is a huge part of the reason why I have taken the path to self discovery and love. We can all learn so much from this beautiful, charming & genuine New Zealander.

I loved the thoughtful questions that Gala asked and the genuine support and love she has shown for me and my adventure. I had so much fun answering these questions and Gala did a magnificent job laying it all out on the table. I particularly love this quote from her:

"While it would be easy to make assumptions about these women based on external appearances — big shiny teeth, massive hair, & the quest for a crown — isn’t it anti-feminist to judge women for pursuing their dreams? While not all of us go to sleep dreaming of a sash & a bouquet of flowers, that doesn’t make someone else’s goals any less real."
Isn't she spectacular? I hope you get a chance to read my story, and I hope that you get an opportunity in your life to share your story. Everyone deserves an opportunity like this. I am so thankful and blessed.

Oh, and my lovely friend Sarah (check out her beautiful blog!) gets a MAJOR shout out for this because she is the one who encouraged me to reach out to Gala in the first place. I would not have done it otherwise. Gracias sweet girl!

I am so blessed for the endless amount of support. I am who I am simply because I have been privileged with people who love me for just that.

Endless love from this lil' New Mexican girl...

  1. I just found your blog through Gala's interview. May I just say that was an awesome read. Yourself and Gala both have the special chemistry of smarts, ambition, warmth and progressive thought that make you women that other women want to be friends with.
Please enlighten me though... what exactly is the use and purpose of butt glue? I'm not sure if I'm alarmed or fascinated haha!

  2. Aw thank you Genevieve! You are so wonderful and your words are too kind. I'm blushing big time right now.
Ah, butt glue! It's to hold your swim suit bottoms in place so that you don't expose your tush with a major wedgie. Any ole spray adhesive will do the trick. :)
Thank you for stopping by! You rock!

  4. I'm here through Gala too! And I just have to say...wow. Wow about your entire life. Wow that you live in beautiful NM (I'm in AZ! love the southwest!), and extra wow that you teach pre-k AND do pageants, and ULTIMATE WOW that you work for TFA in Gallup!! We've driven through Gallup countless times on trips between AZ and NM and I've never imagined what it might be like to live in such a little town.

Needless to say, I'm impressed and I think you're great. Newest follower right here :)

  12. I also came here through Gala's post. I loved it! It is very inspiring and I am in awe of your dedication to your goal. I must ask how would you encourage others to find the goal they want to strive to?

  13. Hi Victoria! Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the great question. I think the best way to strive for a goal is to identify why you want to reach that goal and what will happen after you do. This can be done in a variety of ways and I prefer to do a lot of visualizing. I find that visualizing what you want and then making lists of why you want it will help you identify the goal and the role it plays in your life and you will begin seeing the larger picture. I hope this helps! As role models we can encourage others by recognizing their strengths and staying positive towards all of their beliefs. Always expect the best from others and push and challenge them to do the same. :)
